Confederation
of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) organised the
first Asian Textile Conference, ATEXCON 2005 on
1-2 December 2005 in New Delhi. The theme of the
Conference was “Emerging Trends in Asian
Textiles”. The two-day conference showcased
Asian capabilities in the textile industry since
the phasing out of MFA. Five business sessions
spread over two days covered Fibre and Yarn, Technical
Textiles, Developments in Technology, Home Textiles
and Garments and International Trade.
Far-reaching
technological changes are taking place in the
textile industry. Qualitative and quantitative
changes have to take place in the Indian textile
landscape. That can be brought out through a variety
of measures such as private-public partnerships,
sharing of international experiences, promoting
FDI in textile sector, going up in the value chain
etc The Conference was designed to give a critical
boost to such initiatives. The accent was on exploring
areas of cooperation among the Asian production
centers. Speakers from Asian countries present
in the conference were very optimistic about expanding
horizons through increased cooperation with India. |
